Bio
Robert Albers is Senior Video Specialist in the Department of Telecommunication, Information Studies, and Media. He is a documentary filmmaker with extensive experience as a producer, director, cameraperson, writer, editor, and executive producer and teaches video production at MSU. He has produced and directed many documentaries, directed multi-camera orchestra programs, and has worked extensively in public affairs television programming.Programs created and supervised by Mr. Albers have ranged from governmental affairs to sports to the arts, with many programs receiving awards and widespread distribution, both national and international. He is also active as a consultant and independent producer and director.
Prior to his involvement in television, Mr. Albers was a classical guitarist, and was active as a performer, teacher, radio producer, and arts administrator. He also has training and professional experience in the visual arts, with several years of activity as a still photographer.
Current work:
Arabs, Jews, and the News is a documentary about the Arab and Jewish American experiences in the aftermath of the conflicts in the Middle East, particularly the Israeli conflict with Hezbollah in Lebanon in 2006.
Inside Jazz: Everybody's Welcome is a one-hour documentary and DVD about how the jazz tradition is passed from one generation to the next. Featuring the acclaimed trumpet virtuoso Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Rodney Whitaker and Michigan State University's "Professors of Jazz", and other guest artists, Inside Jazz takes the viewer inside a world of jazz performances, lessons, and master classes. The documentary has been broadcast around the country and is available at insidejazz.org
